Is AI making our brains lazy?
In this thought-provoking article published yesterday on www.rte.ie, Gail Conway explores the issue of how our brains process information in the age of AI, and whether the instant access and convenience it offers is actually making our brains lazy.
It is true that in an effort to conserve mental energy the brain will take the easiest route on offer, so if AI will take on a job for us, particularly if it’s a mundane or time-consuming task, our brains will be happy to comply. Having AI assist us can certainly make our lives easier. However, we still need to stretch our brains to build our own capacity to learn, absorb and remember knowledge.
BehaviourWise was delighted to contribute to this article, in particular to highlight the increasing importance of human judgement and decision-making as AI becomes more prevalent in our personal and working lives. It is a skill in itself to know when and when not to deploy AI, how to direct it and how to manage its output. We believe this skill will become increasingly important as time goes on.
