LAUNCH OF REPORT ON RESEARCH INTO CREDIT UNION DIRECTORS
It was a pleasure to attend the launch of the Report On Research into Credit Union Directors published by the Credit Union Advisory Committee (CUAC) in Cork City on Wednesday July 20th, and to have contributed research to the recent Addendum to the Report. The report was launched by Seán Fleming T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance for Insurance, Credit Unions and International Financial Services. Minister Fleming highlighted that findings of the research have already influenced policy and proposed legislative change for credit unions. Speakers at the event included Professor Ursula Kilkelly Head of the College of Business and Law at UCC, Lorraine Corcoran Chairperson of CUAC, and Dr. Olive McCarthy Senior Lecturer at UCC and member of CUAC. The event took place in the beautiful former Cork Savings Bank Building, now the UCC Centre for Executive Education. The report provides an insight into the perspective of Credit Union Directors and the challenges and opportunities they face.
“I welcome this Report as it gives credit union Directors the opportunity to directly voice their opinions. It serves as a reminder that volunteers are at the heart of the credit union movement. The recommendations from this Report have helped in my work in preparing legislation to help the credit union movement. I expect this legislation will begin the legislative process after the summer break. I would like to thank the Credit Union Advisory Committee, and everyone involved for their contributions to this significant research.”
Seán Fleming T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance for Insurance, Credit Unions and International Financial Services.
