Sustainable Irish Retail Action (SIRA) Launch

Claire • 1 April 2022

BehaviourWise is delighted to announce the launch of SIRA, which stands for Sustainable Irish Retail Action, an initiative designed to help Irish retailers become more sustainable. Sharon Yourell Lawlor and I have been working on this for several months in partnership with Retail Excellence, and with the support of Vodafone, Champion Green and Tap Creative. Our first step was to listen. We conducted a survey among Irish retailers to get their views on sustainable business practices and combined this with interviews with retailers and retail industry specialists. This has given us great insight into the ambition of Irish retailers to become more sustainable and the challenges they encounter along the way. We will follow this with among other things, a practical ‘one-stop-shop’ guide to support and resources available to retailers. Our ambition is to make it easier for retailers to embed sustainable behaviour in their businesses. We look forward to lots of activity in this space over the coming months.

A key step along the way to a circular economy is to segregate our waste properly, so that it can be reused, recycled or disposed of correctly. The latest issue of PTSB Reflecting Ireland explores the lives of women in Ireland today. As we approach a historic referendum on March 8th, International Women's Day, we look at four aspects of women's lives in Ireland: financial wellbeing, home life, work life and lifestyle & sport. Themes that emerge include the need for women to take more control over their long-term financial planning, evidence that behavioural patterns in the home are changing, a strong desire for gender equality in work and sport, and the importance of female role models in working and sporting life.
