REFLECTING IRELAND - CHANGING LIVES
I enjoyed being interviewed by Cormac O hEadhra on RTE radio 1 Drivetime about the latest edition of Permanent TSB's Reflecting Ireland series. This issue, entitled Changing Lives, focuses on how our lives have changed since the pandemic. It reveals how our priorities have shifted, and the changes we have made to how we live, work and socialise.
One of the areas we explore in this latest issue of Reflecting Ireland is our views on housing, consistently reported as a top concern for people throughout the Reflecting Ireland series.
Home ownership is a key aspiration for most people in Ireland, even more so in recent years. Over half the adult population own their own home, just under half do not. The vast majority (8 out of 10) of those that do not own their own home say it is personally important to them to do so at some point in the future. However two thirds (66%) feel the prospect has become less achievable in recent years. We discuss this as well as other findings in this interview.
REGIONAL DIFFERENCES
It was great to have the opportunity to discuss the regional differences we uncovered in this issue of Reflecting Ireland in relation to how we work. Flexible working options have become more and more attractive to workers in recent years. Nationally, over half of workers say it is important to them to have the option of flexi time, 4 out of 10 say hybrid working is important and a similar number like to have the option of a career break. All of these options are more readily available to Dublin-based workers, and less available to those in other areas of the country, particularly the Northwest. Thank you to FM104, Q102, Northern Sound and Ocean FM for the opportunity to chat about these findings.
